City Church of St. Mary
Stadtkirche St. Marien – Reformationskirche Wittenberg
The Stadtkirche St. Marien in Wittenberg is a central site of the Reformation and the oldest church in the city. Martin Luther preached here for over 30 years – powerfully, pioneering, and with lasting impact. The first Protestant services were also celebrated in this church. St. Marien is thus considered the "Mother Church of the Reformation." Particularly impressive are the late Gothic building, Luther's baptismal font, and the Reformation altar designed by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The church was a meeting place, preaching venue, and symbol of a new era.
Today it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and a significant testimony to spiritual and cultural history. Visitors here experience not only architecture but also a deeply rooted Reformation atmosphere. Guided tours and concerts bring the place to life.
A visit to St. Marien is a moving experience – right in the heart of Wittenberg.
