Melanchthon House
Melanchthonhaus – UNESCO-Welterbe Wittenberg
The Melanchthon House in Wittenberg was the residence of the humanist and reformer Philipp Melanchthon, a close companion of Martin Luther. The Renaissance building from the year 1536 impresses with its artistic facade and original interior rooms. Melanchthon lived and worked here for over 20 years. As a scholar, he shaped the education system and was actively involved in drafting reformatory writings.
Today, the house is a museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exhibition displays personal items, manuscripts, and testimonies of his work. Visitors learn more about Melanchthon's role as "Teacher of Germany" and about his work for tolerance, education, and faith. The Melanchthon House provides a vivid picture of the daily life and thinking of one of the most important reformers – a quiet yet powerful place of Reformation history.
