The House of Everyday History in Wittenberg – A Journey into the Past

For visitors who want to dive into German history, the House of Everyday History in Wittenberg is a worthwhile destination. The museum showcases family life from the 1920s to the period of change in 1990 in authentically recreated rooms.

What can visitors expect?

The exhibition presents meticulously crafted living environments, original furniture, and everyday goods from the GDR. There are also recreated public areas such as a dance bar with a homemade disco setup, a village pub, a consumer store, a classroom, and a kindergarten. An audio guide specifically for children conveys the living conditions of the different decades. The museum also operates an archive focusing on 20th-century everyday culture, especially GDR life and Soviet occupation.
