Luther House

Lutherhaus – Geschichte in Wittenberg erleben

The Lutherhaus in Wittenberg, once the residence and workplace of Martin Luther, is one of the central sites of Reformation history. Originally part of the Augustinian monastery, it became Luther's home in 1508. Together with his wife Katharina von Bora and their children, he lived here for over 35 years. In this house, he wrote significant works, received guests, and delivered his renowned table talks. It was not only a family home but also a center for theological discussion. Today, the Lutherhaus is a museum of Reformation history and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Important note: Due to extensive renovation work, the Lutherhaus is currently closed. The reopening is planned for spring 2027.

However, the Reformation can still be experienced: Until mid-2026, you can discover key exhibits from the exhibition right next door in the Augusteum. The special exhibition “Literally Luther. Facets of a Reformer” presents selected objects from the Lutherhaus and sheds light on different aspects of Luther's life and work. Visitors can expect exciting insights, interactive elements, and historical originals. For families, school classes, and anyone interested in history, the visit is a rewarding experience. The Augusteum is located in close proximity to the Lutherhaus – a perfect place to immerse yourself in the world of the Reformation.
